The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is the world’s largest aerospace professional society, serving more than 30,000 individual members from 88 countries, and 95 corporate members. Created in 1963 by the merger of the American Rocket Society (founded in 1930 as the American Interplanetary Society), and the Institute of the Aerospace Sciences (established in 1933), AIAA carries forth a proud tradition of more than 80 years of aerospace leadership.
In addition to membership, AIAA offers five forums where professionals build connections with experts and researchers in aviation, propulsion and energy, space, science and technology, and defense. AIAA’s award-winning publications range from peer-reviewed technical journals, to our magazine, Aerospace America. In addition, AIAA leads the way on issue advocacy in aerospace, and through the Institute’s AIAA Foundation provides grants and other support for STEM K-12 programs.
